About Us

St. Marys Menston

The work of the school is the spiritual, moral, intellectual, aesthetic and physical development of each pupil. It seeks to put Christ at the centre of every activity, worship, learning and service to others.  The school now educates 1,100 pupils in three main teaching blocks: Morse, Clitherow and the Hume building opened by Bishop David Konstant in 2001.

The pupils work alongside over 70 teachers supported by learning assistants, administrative, technical and maintenance staff and a school chaplain.

It is our hope that pupils who pass through our care leave the school ready and willing to be fine examples of the Christian values, which form the solid foundation for St. Mary's. If you are interested in supporting our community either as a pupil, member of staff, or working in partnership with us you are warmly invited to visit us.

Board of Governors

“Governors are jointly responsible for the conduct of the school, ensuring that the best possible Catholic education is provided for the pupils attending the school.  This means ensuring the school is run according to its Instrument of Government and the Diocesan Trust Deed, that its religious character is preserved and developed, and that pupils obtain high standards of academic achievement.” Diocese of Leeds Office for Education and Schools

The Governing body at St. Mary’s comprises twenty members, including the Headteacher, Education Authority, Foundation, Staff and Parent Governors.

Mr Bob Lavery is Chair of Governors:

Bob has worked in the Chemical Industry in Yorkshire for 26 years before taking up an appointment at the University of Leeds.  He is involved in various lay ministries within his home Parish of St. Joseph’s Pudsey and also within the wider Diocese of.  He has been a member of the Governing Body for eight years and is in his third year as Chair of Governors.  Bob is married to Imelda, a Catholic Headteacher, and all four of their children have attended St. Mary’s School.

In the last Governors’ Report to Parents, the Chair comments:

"We have had another record breaking year – the achievements of our young people in the public examinations have once again been magnificent. They are taught by a wonderfully committed staff and admirably supported by you their parents and carers. The work and activity in which we are involved in the local, national and international communities continues to grow and develop. We have indeed much to be thankful for.

However, St Mary’s is not just about good exam results – many good secular schools achieve this. For our young people we are ‘a local church’ with Christ at the centre as we continue to welcome, care for, develop and educate them to the full in their journey through life."
