Teacher Training
St. Mary's is committed to the training of teachers. We work in a partnership with an ever increasing number of higher-educational institutions to provide training leading to Newly Qualified Teacher status.
Presently we work with: Leeds Trinity Univerity College, Leeds University, Leeds Metropolitan University, Liverpool Hope and Bradford College.
Leeds SCITT (school-centered initial teacher training) offers high quality training that is based on a tried and trusted model from Leeds Trinity University College - an OfSTED inspected Grade I provider. In addition to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) the course leads to a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Leeds.
St. Mary's has had a very successful working partnership with Bradford College over the last three years. The partnership promotes the training of GTP's (graduates in the teaching profession). All of the trainees involved in this scheme gained NQT status and have been successfully appointed to their first teaching post.
TEACH LEEDS
St. Mary's is now a member of the TEACH LEEDS partnership. This is a partnership between B-NETT (provider of employment-based initial teacher training) and a group of Leeds primary and secondary schools, assisted by Education Leeds. Schools in the TEACH LEEDS partnership are committed to working together for a period of 3 years to train highly- motivated graduates to become teachers.
TEACH LEEDS is an innovative partnership which will bring benefits to the trainees who are selected to be trained in one of its schools. This school will work closely with B-NETT and with the other schools in the partnership to share and capitalise on the strengths and expertise available within the partnership schools and to develop excellent practice.
